Colour crush...

It's starting to feel quite autumnal here in the UK.
The days are getting cooler following what's probably been the hottest summer in quite some years.
The darker nights will be setting in soon and out come the cozy socks and chunky knitwear.

Here's a little colour crush post that's definitely got that fall vibe...

And not forgetting 'Swan Lake', with beautifully painted swans, dreamy florals and gold foil.

Cool Summer...

We've definitely been having somewhat of a heatwave here in the UK over the past couple of months.
I know it will soon come to an end and the rain will ensue, (we've already had a few downpours this week)
but until then, lets continue to make the most of these glorious days of summer...

On my bookshelf... The Night Flower

'The Night Flower' is written and illustrated by Lara Hawthorne, and tells the story of the Saguaro Cactus, found in the Sonoran desert. The flowers of the cactus are special because they only bloom once a year, and for this short period, attract an abundance of wildlife, large and small.

This wonderful book is a celebration of that very night, and Lara captures it beautifully with her delicate and detailed illustrations.
Woodpeckers, bees, squirrels and lizards all leap and dance from far and wide to see the special event...

"...its white velvet petals unfurl and reach high, and a thick fruity fragrance fills the night sky"

Little ones can also play along with the 'Did you spot...?' feature to be found at the end of the story where they can look our for Bobcats, mice and grasshoppers.

Here are a few favourite pages...

Visiting the Lake District...

Last month we spent a lovely week in the Lake District. We enjoy holidays abroad, but let’s face its, you can’t beat a UK break when the weather's in your favour, and it’s nice to have a holiday with the fluffy ones.

We’ve been to Cumbria a few times now and have visited many of the usual haunts, so we were keen to explore some different areas of this beautiful part of the world.
We chose to stay further north, and booked a lovely holiday cottage near Penrith surrounded by rolling hills and fields and plenty of exceptionally vocal sheep.
Our mornings were very often spent deciphering their conversations!

We headed to Coniston, Ambleside and Pooley Bridge, took a journey on a Loco to Haverthwaite, witnessed glorious waterfalls at Aira Force and drove the winding roads of Kirkstone Pass and around Ullswater, but top of my 'to see' list was Buttermere, and I have to say, I definitely left a little piece of my heart there.
This place is something else, truly.
After a lovely lunch at Skye Farm Tea Rooms, we headed off to walk the 4.5 miles around Buttermere Lake, stopping to meet the local sheep on route, and a little toe dipping.
It’s such a calm and tranquil place with the most breathtaking views around the lake. We’ll definitely be visiting again that’s for sure!

And it wouldn’t be a trip to the Lake District without a quick stop in Grasmere to pick up some sought after gingerbread, yum!

Creative Quarters...Tasha Warren

The next designer to be featured in Creative Quarters is Tasha Warren...

Surface pattern designer based in the Midlands and the North West,
Tasha is an award-winning textile designer who specialises in print and surface pattern. She has recently completed her studies at Birmingham City University.

Her passion for bright and bold colours is evident throughout her work and she has a particular love of collaging. She takes much of her design inspiration from her surroundings as she enjoys spending her free time outdoors with her two dogs.
Her work also takes inspiration from the likes of Josef Frank, Marimekko and Henri Matisse.
Her Final Major Project collection titled ColourFlora is an interior textiles collection inspired by floral motifs. Through a variety of processes, Tasha aims to bring vibrant pops of neon into interior textiles in a contemporary and tasteful way.
With her love of hand rendered collage, Tasha applies her distinctive use of colour to create unique and bespoke designs.
Her sketchbook pages are then worked into repeat screen prints or are edited digitally to form digital designs.
Although she has a distinctive style, throughout her degree at Birmingham City University Tasha has developed her skills in working towards client and trend led briefs.
In 2018 she won the Trend Awareness Award from Colour Hive for her interpretation of the Hush trend.
Most recently, however, she was awarded the Pattern Award by Sarah Campbell for her ColourFlora collection.

Colour crush...

It's the final colour crush post of the week, and we're celebrating the beautiful friendship that is
rich forest greens and khaki, with teal and coral.
Those terracotta and brick tones keep sneaking in though.
They just go so well with everything.

Blakely Little...

Based in South Carolina, Blakely Little of Blakely Made is a super talented artist who creates the most beautiful paintings with stunning colour combinations.
Loving to paint the way she sees the world, Blakely draws inspiration from colourful marshlands, winding waterways and low country skies.
I'm totally in love with her use of colour and those gorgeous expressive brush marks.

Blakely currently has a fab collection of melamine items with Anthropologie, featuring poolside paintings, beach scenes and coastal views in lovely pastel palettes.
I literally want them all!
