Creative Quarters...Anna London

The next designer to be featured in Creative Quarters is Anna London.

Anna London is a surface and pattern designer by night, and a UI designer by day.
Her love of patterns developed while taking a textile printing class in University and has never gone away.
She currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany where she spends her free time drawing and creating repeat patterns.
Anna grew up in California with a creative Mom who always encouraged her to do art projects.
She studied Design and Studio Art at the University of California at Davis, where she enjoyed taking a range of classes, including printmaking, sculpture, fashion design, and web design.
She loved experimenting with so many different mediums and found inspiration in combining different techniques.
She loves to use bright colours and bold shapes to create designs which she hopes make people happy.
She would love to see her work on fabric, stationery, or home decor and is currently in the process of producing her first product, printed cotton tea towels, and she is very excited to see her work come to life!
Her inspiration comes from strange and unique plants and she loves drawing at the Berlin Botanical Garden.
She is also inspired by folk art, and the colours of her favourite painters and printmakers, especially California painters Wayne Theibaud and Richard Diebenkorn.
You can see her work at http://annalondon.com/.

Creative Quarters... Claire Wilson

The next designer to be featured in Creative Quarters is Claire Wilson.

Claire is a freelance illustrator and surface pattern designer, working from a small studio in her countryside home in Northamptonshire.
She enjoys creating fun, colourful and illustrative designs to make people smile and absolutely loves what she does.

After studying Design Crafts at De Montfort University in Leicester, Claire graduated in 2007 and began her creative career as a homeware product designer for Next.
She worked on a wide variety of projects including 3D design and surface pattern.
In 2012, Claire decided to set up her own design business, focusing on surface pattern design and illustration, and has since worked as a freelance designer for a number of companies, with her designs being used across a wide variety of products, including nursery and children’s bedding, home textiles, dinnerware, stationery and gifting as well as nightwear apparel.

She finds inspiration everywhere, from simple everyday household objects to all things bright and beautiful outside.
Naturally drawn to illustrative styles and bright colours, she enjoys creating designs with lots of lovely little details.
She loves to draw and often starts the process by hand drawing motifs or lettering, working in pen and pencil before scanning them into the computer and adding colour digitally.

After completing all four modules of the acclaimed “Art & Business of Surface Pattern Design” e-course, Claire decided that she wanted to develop her design portfolio and began producing prints and patterns for licensing opportunities.
She recently launched a brand new website which features her own range of art prints, bespoke gifts and greeting cards, as well as showcasing some of her latest print and pattern designs which are available for licensing.
Claire's also very happy to collaborate on commissioned work and freelance projects, so please feel free to visit her website or find her on Instagram here.

Claire has thrown in an extra little freebie for readers of loveprintstudio.
Click here to download this lovely 170mm x 120mm landscape wall art, print away and pop in a frame...simple!

Creative Quarters...Ellie Green

The next designer to be featured in Creative Quarters is Ellie Green.

Ellie is due to graduate from Leeds College of Art this year with a First Class Honours degree in Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern Design.
She has a passion for all things colour,
print and pattern, and this is showcased through her bright and playful designs.

Ellie’s design practice revolves around exploring colour relationships through painting, drawing and digital design.
She explores many different themes and styles
which inspires her to create unique and joyful surface pattern designs.
Ellie works intuitively with colour and paint,
creating vibrant and captivating colour palettes.
There is a rhythmic nature to her designs, and she often designs whilst listening to music.

Inspired by nature, and having grown up in the countryside, Ellie draws from observation and gathers inspiration from everything around her.
Research trips involve visiting botanical gardens and wildlife parks, as well as simply observing nature and flowers whilst walking through the park.
She also seeks inspiration from photography, art, fashion, blogs and exhibitions.

Whilst Ellie likes to keep up to date with print and colour trends, she likes to create her own trends and work to her own briefs.
The colour story is integral to Ellie’s design identity, and this is the most important part of her design process.
Commercial awareness and attention to detail are key to Ellie’s design practice, however, her playful and light-hearted approach to design form her distinctive handwriting.
Her work is mainly digital, however she always begins with painting, drawing and other processes.

Ellie exhibited at New Designers this year with Leeds College of Art, and
her work was also on display at Leeds College of Art Degree show in June.

Ellie is currently interning for Oliver Bonas as a home and gift designer.

Creative Quarters... Brittany Bucknall

The next designer to be featured in Creative Quarters is Brittany Bucknall.

Brittany has recently graduated from Leeds College of Art studying a (BA Hons) Degree in Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design.
She would refer to herself as an illustrator as well as a surface pattern designer as she loves to create characters and include narratives within her design.
She loves to draw with a story behind her drawing; which she usually achieves by sketching what she sees on her country walks.
She focuses on producing great quality work by creating fun, playful and naive designs which her audience can connect with.
As for process, she is interested in both hand and digital processes,
and would describe her style as simplistic, graphic, bold, playful but also elegant and quirky.

Her current practice is within creating patterns and illustrations for various surfaces.
Her portfolio mainly demonstrates designs which are aimed for both the interiors and greetings industry, and she has built up a strong technical knowledge of using Adobe softwares such as Photoshop, Illustrator and In-Design.
Brittany also has a good knowledge of other printing techniques such as screen printing, mono printing, lino cutting/printing and etching.
Other skills she possesses are embellishment, embroidery, sewing, flocking and foiling by both hand and machine.

Recently, she has launched her first website www.brittanyprints.com and she is working on creating products to be sold on her etsy account www.etsy.com/shop/brittanyprints where she will soon be selling bespoke and personalised greeting cards, art prints and interior goods.

Brittany works from her home based studio in Leeds where she spends most of her days playing around with collaging, lino cutting and drawing.
She loves the use of pastels and brights in combination with each other in her colour palette.
She is hugely inspired by bold, simplistic and graphic shapes like that seen in traditional Scandinavian design.

In her spare time Brittany loves keeping fit, cooking, baking, reading and day trips out visiting quaint villages.

She would love the opportunity to collaborate with others and also take on any freelance opportunities.

To get in touch with her you can email her direct at brittanyprints.info@gmail.com or you can find her on instagram: @brittanyprints

Hannah Rampley is a freelance textile designer and illustrator currently based in Edinburgh.
Hannah graduated with a First Class Honours from Leeds College of Art in 2013 in Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern design, and has since been working in the industry designing both in-house and freelance.

Hannah's work is often inspired by patterns and shape found within natural objects (specifically foiliage and fruits) and her most recent project entitled 'Living Garden' has been looking at how access to nature can improve positive wellbeing in people.
The project looks at green areas within cities focusing on hidden areas of greenery and city botanical gardens and looking at the importance of bringing more natural objects into people's often busy, stressful lives.
The project aims to bring beautiful, colourful foliage inspired textiles into people homes and lives.

Hannahs' work is often screen printed by hand from her studio at Edinburgh College of Art where she is currently working as an artist in residence.

Creative Quarters...Angela Nickeas

The next designer to be featured in Creative Quarters is Angela Nickeas.
I went to University with this lovely, talented gal, so it's an absolute pleasure to feature her in todays post.

Angela studied a BA(Hons)in Surface Pattern Design at Staffordshire University.
Since graduating over 10 years ago, she started her career in the home textile and furnishing market, designing patterns and styling ranges for a number of major UK retailers and International clients.

In 2010, after the birth of her first daughter, Angela took the brave step to set up her own freelance studio and Hiccup Studio Designs was born.
Angela immediately began to undertake various design projects for both UK and International customers expanding her portfolio into in the stationery and giftware industries, however other creative projects have included childrenswear print design, scrapbook papers, fabric design and wall decals.

More recently, Angela launched her own etsy shop, Fizzy Hiccups (www.etsy.com/shop/fizzyhiccups) where she sells bespoke and personalised greeting cards and art prints.
Featuring whimsical floral illustrations overlayed with graphic textures and shapes, she really hopes to develop and expand her product range in the coming months.

Angela works from her studio at home in Cheshire and her work is largely inspired by current print trends within interior design including textiles and wallpapers which she then translates into highly decorative, textural patterns with a vectorised feel using a limited palette of bright solid colours.

Her portfolio is fun, playful and quirky and inspired by nature and flowers – along with a small obsession for bird and butterfly imagery and anything pink!
She is also inspired by the bold, simple forms and graphic lines of mid-century Scandinavian pattern from the likes of Sanna Annukka and Marimekko.

Angela lives with her husband and three young children who keep her busy when she’s not designing!
In her spare time she enjoys cooking and binging on Netflixs boxsets while drinking copious cups of tea.

Angela is open to new collaborations or projects.
To get in touch with her visit her website or find her on Instagram.

Creative Quarters...Victoria Fitton

The next designer to be featured in Creative Quarters is Victoria Fitton...

Victoria is a freelance illustrator living and loving life on a working farm in Glastonbury, Somerset.

She studied Design at Staffordshire University which was a multidisciplinary course looking at the areas of Glass Design, Surface Pattern and Ceramics.
It was hand thrown pottery which Victoria fell in love with and eventually specialized in.

A number of years spent as a potter included selling a range of functional ware through David Mellor Design at Sloane Square and exhibiting at the V&A museum as well as Contemporary Applied Arts in London.

A move from London to the countryside and beginning a family meant a change in emphasis and all things ‘arty’ had to temporarily take a back seat.
As her three children became more independent, Victoria began to draw and paint again in spare moments.

Inspiration can come simply from everyday living; a funky piece of packaging or a walk in the countryside with Willow the dog!
Victoria is particularly drawn to the organic, ever changing forms found in nature.
And there is something about repetition that really appeals; a group of shapes or colours that share similarities, creating rhythm and movement in a piece.
With cows right outside her studio window, it is quite a normal occurrence to have to down brushes at very short notice to help out with a calf being born or some other cow related crisis!

Currently Victoria sells prints of her work upon request and intends shortly to open an Etsy shop so that she has a more visible selling platform.
She is also keen to find representation with the hope of licensing her work to a much broader audience.
She would love to one day be involved in designing a fabric range or would be equally happy designing for the children’s market in some way.
