Michael Muir...

I recently discovered a piece of art by Scottish born Michael Muir and immediately wanted to see more.
His interpretation of observed landscape scenes are created using lots of simple shapes and abstract blocks, and I just love his use of colour in these beautiful paintings.

The list of exhibitions that Sydney based Michael has participated in is literally endless, and includes many in Australia, South Korea and London.
The below paintings are from collections/exhibitions previously held with the Sophie Gannon Gallery; 'Turning to Water', 'Fair Go' and 'Surface'.

Visit their website for sales and availability, including details of future exhibitions for 2018.

Colour crush...

Can you tell I'm waiting for Spring to arrive with todays colour crush post?
I'm done with the grey skies and cold days.

Love this combination of those gorgeous coral and orange tones with the turquoise and blues, and with that pop of ochre and hint of purple...yum!

Creative Quarters...Jiah Harrison

The next designer to be featured in Creative Quarters is Jiah Harrison.

Jiah is an artist and designer living and working from a home studio in the beautiful, mountainous Grampians region of Victoria, Australia.
She runs an art and design studio called Elephant & Rose specialising in licensing colourful and unique surface pattern designs.
Her work is bold and joyful, incorporating hand cut shapes, painterly brush strokes and hand drawn textures. Above all she loves colour and draws inspiration from her life in regional Australia, the optimism she feels being surrounded by beautiful mountains and farm land, the freedom and simplicity of regional life, the abundant colours in nature and the intersection of  landscape and architecture.

Jiah graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art specialising in textile design in 2010 at the Australian National University and since then has worked in interior design and started a family while tirelessly working on her art and surface design skills.

2018 is shaping up to be a very big year for Elephant & Rose...
Now that her youngest child is off to day care, Jiah can finally pursue her dream of being a full time artist and designer. She has just created a small collection of art prints for sale in her Etsy shop elephantandrose.etsy.com and released a range of fabrics with Nerida Hansen Prints.
She has some exciting collaboration projects including fashion and jewellery launching in early 2018 (keep an eye on her instagram for details) and is very excited to be working on brand new prints for her debut at Surtex, New York in May 2018.

Colour crush...

Pantone Colour of the Year for 2018 was named as 'Ultra Violet'.
"A dramatically provacative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking that points us towards the future"

So here's a little nod to that mystical colour in todays colour crush post, with a lovely combo of violet, lilac, forest green (there it is again...still obsessed, sorry)
with punchy yellow and mustard tones.
