The next designer to be featured in Creative Quarters is Ellie Green.
Ellie is due to graduate from Leeds College of Art this year with a First Class Honours degree in Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern Design.
She has a passion for all things colour,
print and pattern, and this is showcased through her bright and playful designs.
Ellie’s design practice revolves around exploring colour relationships through painting, drawing and digital design.
She explores many different themes and styles
which inspires her to create unique and joyful surface pattern designs.
Ellie works intuitively with colour and paint,
creating vibrant and captivating colour palettes.
There is a rhythmic nature to her designs, and she often designs whilst listening to music.
Inspired by nature, and having grown up in the countryside, Ellie draws from observation and gathers inspiration from everything around her.
Research trips involve visiting botanical gardens and wildlife parks, as well as simply observing nature and flowers whilst walking through the park.
She also seeks inspiration from photography, art, fashion, blogs and exhibitions.
Whilst Ellie likes to keep up to date with print and colour trends, she likes to create her own trends and work to her own briefs.
The colour story is integral to Ellie’s design identity, and this is the most important part of her design process.
Commercial awareness and attention to detail are key to Ellie’s design practice, however, her playful and light-hearted approach to design form her distinctive handwriting.
Her work is mainly digital, however she always begins with painting, drawing and other processes.
Ellie exhibited at New Designers this year with Leeds College of Art, and
her work was also on display at Leeds College of Art Degree show in June.
Ellie is currently interning for Oliver Bonas as a home and gift designer.
