Creative Quarters... Beth Fletcher

The next designer to be featured in Creative Quarters is Beth Fletcher.

Beth is a freelance illustrator and designer based in Shropshire, UK.
She likes nothing more designing cute characters and colourful prints, especially for clothing.
She loves creating patterns, and likes to switch between her sketch book and graphics tablet when creating her work.

Beth studied at Birmingham City University and graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Illustration, and it was there that she found her love for all things pattern.

She then went on to spend a number of  years working as an in house designer at a childrenswear supplier, designing garments, graphics and prints for the UK high street as well as various international brands.

In 2019 she set up her freelance illustration and design business, where she has continued her work designing children's and babywear.
More recently she has began expanding her portfolio into the stationery and giftware industries, designing greetings cards, wrapping paper and gift bags.
She also creates bespoke wedding stationary and personalised nursery prints.

Beth has designed for many different clients big and small, including George at Asda, Primark, Nutmeg at Morrisons, Babyshop and MiniKlub.

When she isn't busy drawing, painting and making she likes exploring new places, listening to David Bowie and watching Liverpool play football.

She has an Etsy store where you can buy some of her designs: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/BethIllustratesStore

You can also find her work on Society6!

Beth is always on the look out for exciting new work and commissions.

The Wild & the Tame

I recently got chatting to the lovely Chantelle of independant luxury baby brand
'The Wild & the Tame' and she wanted to let me know about a new limited edition collection they've just released featuring the Paper & Cloth 'Meadow Safari' fabric I designed for Dashwood Studio!

Centred around the two safari themed prints in the collection, Chantelle has handcrafted cot blankets, teething rings and bibs...and they look amazing!

“The imminent return of the Lion King to the big screens will no doubt create a nostalgic draw towards jungle themes for new Mums and Dads, who themselves grew up watching the 1990s classic.

Animal names and sounds are often some of the first words that toddlers learn, and our safari collection introduces exotic and endangered animals into their little worlds and fast developing vocabularies.”

The two safari prints are the latest in a series of nature-inspired fabrics carefully chosen by Chantelle, and follows last year’s prominent woodland animals trend,
which was reflected in The Wild and The Tame’s bestselling prints of 2018.

Since launching the brand in summer 2018, the product range has expanded to include cot and moses basket blankets, swaddle blankets, milestone blankets, bibs, teething rings, cushions, framed prints and greeting cards, with much more to come.
New limited edition fabrics are selected and released every few months, ranging from subtle gender neutral prints to bold statement designs.
“I spend a lot of time researching and sourcing stunning fabrics, to provide parents seeking products to complete their baby's nursery,
and those looking for unique and thoughtful gifts,
with special items that they can really fall in love with."
- Chantelle Laker -

Chantelle launched The Wild and The Tame whilst pregnant with her second son, searching for a better work-family life balance and keen to rekindle the creativity she had harnessed during a furniture and product design degree years earlier.
Struggling to find blankets and baby accessories in the specific style she was looking for on the high street – delicate, nature-inspired designs that aren't too garish or childish yet not bland either – she set out to create them herself, and now handmakes all of The Wild and The Tame’s products from her home studio in the Kent countryside.

Whilst minimalism is still popular in children’s interiors, there is an increasing shift away from paired back spaces to a more eclectic ‘boho chic’ style, combining neutral tones with pops of colour, playful patterns and mixed textures.
The Wild and The Tame’s products are the perfect way to add striking focal points and statement pieces to baby and toddler nurseries, playrooms and wardrobes.
